Northeast Civil Platform

Our Mission

What is NCP?

Northeast Civil Platform (NCP) is an advisory council serving as a communication and coordination resource for the Hizmet volunteers and institutions in the Northeast region of the United States.

Our Mission

NCP aims to facilitate networking, sharing best practices, and inspiring ideas to better serve local communities in education, dialogue, and humanitarian aid in the Northeast region of the United States.

What We Do

  • NCP serves as a communication hub among the Hizmet volunteers in the Northeast and the United States.

  • NCP supports its communities by developing best practice sharing and cooperation opportunities.

  • NCP offers educational opportunities to the Hizmet network for increasing professionalism in the areas of leadership, governance, and public relations.

  • NCP regularly assesses the governance, transparency, and accountability of its network of organizations to improve their performance and efficiency.

Our Approach

  • Attendees of NCP’s bi-monthly meetings include board members, volunteers, and executive directors representing local Hizmet-related institutions and coordinators of Hizmet activities, such as dialog, mentorship, and humanitarian relief.

  • Each member institution is governed by its respective Board of Trustees in accordance with their by-laws and federal and state laws. It is understood by all participants that decisions in NCP’s meetings are at advisory status and non-binding.

  • We elect four members to represent NCP in the North America Civic Platform. Again, our relationship with other platforms and institutions are non-binding.

  • Our platform members represent local Hizmet platforms in the following regions: New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Upstate New York, New York, New Jersey, Western Pennsylvania, South Jersey, and East Pennsylvania.

  • To increase the efficiency of platform meetings and enhance community engagement, we have established the following committees: â€‹

    • Governance and Compliance Committee

    • Education Committee

    • Human Resources Committee

    • Finance Committee

    • Communications Committee

    • Diversity, Equity, Inclusion Committee

    • Integration Committee

    • Ombudsman Committee

What is Hizmet?

Hizmet is a transnational civil society initiative that advocates for the ideals of human rights, equal opportunity, democracy, non-violence, and the emphatic acceptance of religious and cultural diversity. Led by Fethullah Gülen, Hizmet began in Turkey as a grassroots movement in the 1970s in the context of social challenges being faced at the time: violent conflict among ideologically and politically driven youth, desperate economic conditions, and decades of the state-imposed ideology of discrimination. Throughout the past five decades, Hizmet's activism has focused on:

  • Promoting philanthropy and community service.

  • Investing in education to seek long-term peace and social development.

  • Intercultural and interfaith dialogue for peaceful coexistence.
